Instagram Blend is an invite-only shared Reels feed inside an Instagram DM. Open a one-to-one or group chat in the mobile app, tap Blend → Invite, and wait for an acceptance. Instagram combines suggested Reels for participating accounts, identifies whom some clips were suggested for, and refreshes the feed (described as daily at launch). Reactions and replies can return to the chat; you can leave through Blend settings. Blend is not a public playlist, synchronized watch party, or a list of everything your friends watched.
One friend gets baking tutorials. Another gets railway videos. Their Blend suggests a cake shaped like a train. That unexpected overlap captures the appeal: Instagram puts individually recommended clips into a conversation-specific space without requiring anyone to build a playlist. At Dumpor, we focus on how that works—and what a recommendation can, and cannot, reveal.
Launched in April 2025, Blend is a shared recommendation space attached to an individual or group Direct Message (DM). It brings together Reels Instagram thinks the participating people may enjoy. It is opt-in: membership in a group chat does not automatically mean your recommendations join that group’s Blend. Separate conversations can have different Blends.
The feature does not combine Instagram accounts, reveal Saved collections, or grant access to private messages outside the chat. It offers recommendations, not ownership of one another’s data.
| Feature | Blend | Regular Reels | Manual DM share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | A specific DM | Main Reels area | A DM conversation |
| Video selection | Suggestions for participants | Recommendations for one account | A person chooses a clip |
| Invitation required | Yes | No | No Blend invitation |
| Discussion | Replies return to the DM | Ordinary engagement tools | Chat messages |
| Synchronized playback | No | No | No |
No third-party app or password exchange is necessary. Use Instagram on iPhone or Android.
The distinction is consent. Unjoined chat members do not automatically contribute their recommendations simply because they can see an invitation.
Open the DM containing it and choose Join or Accept if you wish to participate. New participants can change the recommendations. You can keep using the chat without joining its Blend.
Blend was introduced for the mobile app, not as a standard Instagram web feature. If you are on a computer, try the updated iPhone or Android app. A browser that displays public Reels does not thereby offer the personalized DM feed.
Blend does not simply average everyone’s likes. Instagram describes a shared stream assembled from Reels recommended for participating accounts, informed by their activity and interests. Reels shared in the associated DM can also influence suggestions. Meta described daily refreshes at launch, with changes as new participants join or Reels are shared.
A useful model—not Meta’s undisclosed ranking formula—is:
| What you notice | Reasonable interpretation | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| “Suggested for Sam” | The system recommended it for Sam | Sam watched or liked it |
| A Reel sent in the chat | Participants explicitly shared a clip | Everybody approved of it |
| Many similar topics | The system detects an apparent interest | Anyone has a permanent preference |
| Unequal suggestions | The mix is not necessarily balanced | The other account is malfunctioning |
Instagram has not disclosed precise weights for watches, likes, shares, and timing, nor promised a 50/50 split. A wedding-venue video is not evidence your friend is planning a wedding. Algorithms make odd associations. Quite odd, sometimes.
The reply field or quick emoji reaction connected to a Blend Reel sends a message back to its associated DM, typically including a reference to that video; chat participants can receive notifications. You might reply “That hike looks impossible in winter” without posting a public comment under the original Reel.
By contrast, tapping a Reel’s ordinary Like or Comment controls makes an Instagram engagement subject to the original video’s rules. Our guide to whether Instagram notifies someone when you share a post or Reel explains why a chat response, a public reaction, and forwarding a Reel have different audiences.
Not a synchronized one. People can explore the same recommendation space at different times and discuss it in the chat; Blend does not make their videos start, pause, or advance simultaneously.
Private to a chat does not mean free of personal signals. A Suggested for label can reveal what Instagram thinks may interest a participant, even if that guess is wrong. In a group, everyone participating can encounter that context.
Blend does not display a complete list of what you watched, liked, saved, searched for, or visited. A recommendation is not proof you encountered the video. Equally, hiding likes and comments from the separate Reels Friends tab does not constitute a global switch to conceal Blend recommendations.
Before accepting, check who is in the group, whether you are comfortable with suggested interests being discussed, and whether manually sharing a few clips would be enough. You can decline an invitation or leave later. Do not provide login details to applications claiming to reveal a friend’s hidden Blend.
Open a Reel’s three-dot menu and look for Interested, Not interested, or Remove from your blends, where available. These options can shape preferences or remove an unwanted suggestion; their names and availability vary. Some versions apply a removal across your Blends. They do not delete the original Reel or guarantee an instant algorithm reset.
Sharing genuinely relevant clips in the DM may also influence future suggestions. If one person’s recommendations seem dominant, check labels across more videos and revisit after a refresh. Meta has not promised equal numbers for every participant, so a short sample is not enough to diagnose a fault.
Open the relevant DM, enter Blend, then its settings or options (often a gear icon). Choose Leave this blend and confirm. The remaining feed can update without recommendations associated with you. Exact menu placement may differ by app version.
Muting the DM only changes alerts; it does not necessarily end your Blend membership. Deleting the conversation from your inbox is not a reliable way to leave, while leaving the entire group changes much more than your recommendation participation.
| Goal | Best action | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Stop supplying suggestions | Leave Blend | Earlier impressions cannot be recalled |
| Quiet notifications | Mute the DM | Membership can continue |
| Remove one Reel | Use Remove from your blends, if offered | Original remains online |
| Limit unsolicited contacts | Review DM request settings | Does not revoke existing messages |
Leaving does not erase chat messages, screenshots, or earlier reactions. Review those separately if privacy is your concern.
Blend asks which Reels might interest the participants in this DM. The Friends tab is a broader Reels destination that can show friends’ public interactions and recommendations from Blends. They can overlap but are not interchangeable.
Saved is for finding your own posts later, not creating a shared feed. Sending a Reel manually means you choose exactly what the recipient receives. If a clip has disappeared, our guide to finding an Instagram post you saw before covers Watch History and other retrieval methods. Blend itself is not a reliable archive of your viewing history.
First, check that you are inside a DM in the mobile app, rather than on desktop or in the ordinary Reels feed. Then:
Different app versions, eligibility, restrictions, or temporary problems can explain a missing icon. It does not prove someone blocked you. Avoid extensions promising to unlock other people’s private Blends.
Dumpor focuses on available public Instagram content. Our Instagram Reels Viewer lets you browse public profiles’ Reels in a browser without an Instagram login. It is useful for checking a creator’s public work independently of personalized recommendations.
Dumpor cannot open private DMs, retrieve a Blend’s participant-specific feed, identify who watched a Reel, or join a Blend for you. Use Instagram for collaboration inside Blend, and Dumpor for accessible public Reels. For questions about our service, use Dumpor’s website contact route without sending passwords or private chats.
Blend can spark a conversation; it should not be treated as proof of someone else’s private habits. If you want control over the exact clip shared, the ordinary DM Share button remains the simpler choice.
FAQ
Instagram Blend is an invite-only feed of recommended Reels attached to one individual or group DM. Once somebody accepts the invitation, the shared feed displays videos associated with participating accounts and may label whom each was suggested for. You can reply through the chat. It is neither a public playlist nor a watch-party service, and it does not provide a complete viewing history.
Open your Instagram DM with that friend, tap the Blend icon near the top, choose Invite, and wait for acceptance. Reopen the conversation and tap Blend to browse. Both iPhone and Android support the mobile feature where available; icon placement varies. You do not need a separate application, public post, or shared password.
Yes. In a group DM, tap Blend and invite members. According to Meta’s launch instructions, the feed may become active after at least one group member accepts. Only people who join contribute their associated recommendations. Ordinary group membership does not automatically enroll somebody in Blend. Check the participants before accepting an invitation in a work or mixed social group.
Instagram uses recommendations associated with participants’ viewing and interactions, and can incorporate Reels shared in the linked chat. Meta described daily refreshes at launch, but has not published the weighting or an equal-share rule. Suggested for [name] means Instagram recommended the clip for that person; it does not prove they watched, liked, searched for, or endorsed it.
No complete watch-history list is supplied. Participants can see the shared feed and labels connecting suggestions to accounts, which can reveal possible interests. Those labels may be inaccurate or reflect passing curiosity. Blend does not publish your search history, saved collection, or every Reel you watched. If these inferences feel uncomfortable, decline the invitation or leave the Blend.
A quick emoji reaction or reply through Blend’s chat controls goes to the associated DM and can notify its members. Merely encountering a recommendation is not the same as sending a reaction. Public likes or comments placed on the original Reel have separate visibility. Use the Blend reply field when you intend to speak only to the conversation.
Use the video’s options menu and look for Interested, Not interested, or Remove from your blends, if offered. You can also share genuinely relevant Reels in the related DM. Feedback can affect suggestions but does not guarantee instant changes, equal representation of everyone, or deletion of the public original. Menus and refresh behavior may change.
Open the DM, enter the Blend, and find Leave this blend in its settings or options. Confirm the action. This ends your participation without necessarily leaving the larger group chat. Muting the DM only changes alerts, and deleting the chat from your inbox is not a reliable substitute. Earlier messages or screenshots may remain accessible.
Use Instagram’s updated mobile app and open an individual or group DM. The feature’s appearance can vary by account and version; desktop may lack it. Try another eligible chat, verify acceptance, restart the app, and report a persistent issue through Instagram. A missing icon does not establish that somebody blocked you. Avoid third-party tools claiming private Blend access.
No. Blend is a shared recommendation space inside a particular invited DM. The Friends tab is a separate Reels destination that can surface public activity from friends and recommendations from Blends. A Friends-tab setting for likes and comments is not a universal switch to hide Blend suggestions. Manage each feature in its own controls.
